the latest version?
1. What is the main difference between Athlete's
Database and Weightmania?
Weightmania tracks workouts, nutrition, measurements
and medical information (such as blood sugar,
blood pressure and cholesterol). It is designed
to track and analyze a wide range of things related
to health and fitness. Athlete's Database and
Athlete's Database Gold are mainly designed to
track workouts. Weightmania has all of the features
in both products.
2. Can I install my software on more than
one computer?
If it's for personal use (and for the same person),
the Windows and Macintosh version of Weightmania
Pro (5 users), can be installed on up to two computers.
For example a laptop and desktop computer. All
of our other software products, excluding the
network versions, are licensed for use on one
computer or device.
3. Is a user guide or instruction manual included
with this software?
You can download free, printable user guides
from our downloads page. Click on the link below
to go directly to this page. Weightmania and Athlete's
Database Gold also have a full user guide built
into the software. See "Contents..."
under the main help menu.
Demos
& Manuals
For both the Mac and Windows desktop version,
a complete user guide is also built into the software
under the "Help" menu. There are three
main options including "Tips For New Users",
"Quick Start Guide" and "Contents...".
The "Contents..." option provides the
most comprehensive help. Topics are organized
by category and displayed in a familiar Web-page
format.
4. Do you have a Pocket PC version of Weightmania
Mobile?
We currently do not have a version for Pocket
PC. However, we expect to have a Pocket PC version
available soon.
5 . How do I install the licensed version
from CD (Windows and Mac OS X)?
The Windows version is completely automated.
Simply insert the CD and wait for the installation
procedure to begin. On a Mac, simply drag the
folder containing Weightmania onto your desktop.
Both versions require you to enter the serial
number located on the back of the package.
6 . Is there a difference between the CD version
and the download version?
There is no difference between the download version
and CD version. Many people prefer the download
version because they can use the software immediately.
7. Are there ways to reduce typing and save
time?
a. You can cut, copy and paste nearly everything
including tables, tabs and forms.
b. Use speed menus (these appear when you right-click
on objects with the mouse in Windows or when you
hold the control key and press the mouse button
on the Mac).
c. Use drag and drop to copy foods between the
meal table and favorites list.
d. Create predefined meal programs (lets you enter
meals for an entire day in one click).
e. Create predefined workout programs (lets you
can enter workouts in one click).
f. Create a custom food database (lets you enter
a foods and nutrients in one click).
g. Use the input wizard to record food and enter
workouts.
h. Use keyboard short-cuts to access menu options.
8. The licensed version or demo will not start
on Windows. What is wrong?
a. Most installation problems are caused by downloading
an incomplete copy of our software. If you get
a database error when you try to install, this
is the case. Try downloading the software again
when our server is less busy.
b. Disable (turn off) any antivirus or spyware
blocking programs before installation (our software
does not contain spyware, but these applications
can cause conflicts).
c. Make sure you have at least 40 megabytes of
free disk space and 64 megabytes of memory (128
megabytes are recommended).
d. If you are running an older version of Windows
XP, download and install Windows XP Service Pack
2. This is available for free from Microsoft's
web site. It corrects most issues related to installation
and startup.
e. Weightmania may not operate correctly on older
versions of Windows Me. To make it work correctly,
upgrade to the latest version, or upgrade to Windows
98 or Windows XP.
f. If the software will not start or generates
errors (especially on machines outside the United
States), download and install the full (and newest)
version of the Java Run Time Environment (JRE)
from www.java.com. This is free. Weightmania requires
Java to run. A compressed version is included
with each release, but the full version can correct
conflicts with other versions of Java on your
machine and other programs like antivirus software.
g. If you downloaded a file than ends in ".ZIP",
it needs to be uncompressed first. You can do
this by downloading a free tool from Winzip.com.
9. The licensed version or demo runs too slow
on Windows. What is wrong?
a. If the software runs too slow, even on a fast
machine, download and install the full (and newest)
version of the Java Run Time Environment (JRE)
from www.java.com. This is free. Weightmania requires
Java to run. A compressed version is included
with each release, but the full version can correct
conflicts with other versions of Java on your
machine, and other programs like antivirus software.
b. If the software initially runs fast, then
becomes progressively slower, this usually indicates
another application is consuming all of the available
memory. In our tests, some speech recognition,
video and photo editing applications can cause
this. Exit these programs, then restart our software.
10. The licensed version or demo will not
start on Mac OS X. What is wrong?
a. Most installation problems are caused by downloading
an incomplete copy of our software. Try downloading
the software again when our server is less busy.
b. Do not run Weightmania directly from a CD.
Install it by dragging the Weightmania folder
from the CD onto your desktop or applications
folder.
c. If you have trouble starting Weightmania,
you may need to download the newest version of
Java or upgrade your operating system. You can
download the latest files from Apple using the
link below. The Java upgrade is free. NOTE: In
some cases, your system may indicate you have
the latest version of Java. It is important to
force the system to upgrade anyway. You may have
to delete Java from your system to do this.
http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/softwareupdates.html
11. The licensed version or demo runs too
slow on Mac OS X. What is wrong?
If the software initially runs fast, then becomes
progressively slower, this usually indicates another
application is consuming all of the available
memory. In our tests, some speech recognition,
video and photo editing applications can cause
this. Exit these programs, then restart our software.
12. How do I remove the Weightmania demo?
a. On a Windows machine, use the uninstaller
provided. This is located in the Weightmania folder
accessible from the Windows Start menu. Alternatively,
you can go to to the Windows start menu and select
"settings". Next, select "control
panel" then choose "add/remove programs"
and remove "Weightmania 1.x Demo" from
the list. In some cases, it may also be necessary
to manually delete the shortcut icon on the desktop
and the "Weightmania 1.x Demo" folder
on the start menu.
b. On a Mac, just delete the Weightmania folder.
13. How do I remove the Athlete's Database
3.2 demo?
Just delete the folder you installed it in. By
default this is "C:\Program Files\Edward
A Greenwood, Inc\Athlete's Database 3-2".
Using Windows Explorer, you can just click on
this folder and press the delete button.
14. The pie chart on the meal table appears
incorrect. What is wrong?
The pie chart shows the ratio of total fat, protein
and carbohydrates. By default, this is based on
the weight of each nutrient in grams. To change
this to calories, use the radio button at the
bottom. When based on calories, 1 gram of fat
equals 9 calories, 1 gram of protein equals 4
calories, and 1 gram of carbohydrates equals 4
calories.
15. In the meal table, the "number of
servings" field and totals do not appear
to be correct. What am I doing wrong?
Each time you enter one line in the meal table,
then press Enter or click on another line with
the mouse, the totals will automatically update.
You can also force them to update at any time
by selecting Save. In each row, the "# Srvs."
column specifies the number of servings. If you
don't enter anything, it will default to 1. All
of the numeric fields on a row are multiplied
by this value when the totals are calculated at
the bottom. Sometimes people confuse this with
the "Serving Size" field, which is used
to enter a description like "One Bowl".
Finally, anytime you change the number of servings
in a row, it will not change anything on the current
line. The new value will be reflected in the totals
at the bottom.
16. Is there a way to separate cardio. workouts
in the chart and statistics tool? For example,
I just want to graph 10 mile routes or analyze
swimming data.
Yes, one way to easily separate cardio. workouts
is to use the filter option. The filter appears
in the bottom right corner of the chart and statistics
tool. It separates workouts using the "cardio
type" field in the upper left corner of each
workout form. You can use the pre-defined cardio
types or add new ones. Do this by selecting the
"add" button on the right side of this
field. For example, you could create "Cycling
10", "Cycling 15", and "Cycling
20" to indicate the distance associated with
each cycling route. Every time you record a 10
mile ride, select "Cycling 10" from
the list. Later when you select the "Cardiovascular"
category in other tools, the filter in the bottom
right will become active. It will include the
new cardio types you created earlier ("Cycling
10", "Cycling 20", etc). These
will also show upon the calendar and in the reports,
making it easy to separate and analyze your data.
17. Is there a faster way to record meals
and nutrients?
Here are some tips to save time recording meals.
In general, the process of entering and recording
daily nutrition becomes faster over time. Since
most people eat the same 30 to 40 foods each month,
it won't take long to build up a favorites list.
Weightmania can also search previous days to see
if you already recorded a food. Using the tools
below, you will never have to enter the details
of a meal or food twice.
a. You can cut, copy and paste nearly everything
including tables, tabs and forms.
b. Use drag and drop to copy foods between the
meal table and favorites list.
c. Create predefined meal programs (lets you enter
meals for an entire day in one click).
d. Create a custom food database (lets you enter
a foods and nutrients in one click).
e. When using the input wizard to enter meals,
select "journal" from the list of databases
to search. If you ever entered this food before,
you can re-enter it in one mouse click.
18. I just purchased a download version. Where
is the link to download it?
Thank you for purchasing our software! After
you ordered, you should have been redirected to
a download page. There was also an option to do
this manually. If you did not see this page, just
send us a note using our feedback form. We'll
send you the link you need within 24 hours (in
many cases we can respond in a few minutes). For
faster service, please include your name, the
email address used to order, the name of the product
you purchased, and where you ordered it (this
site, or the name of a third party site). Sorry
for the inconvenience this has caused! We greatly
appreciate your business.
19. How can I evaluate the Weightmania demo
if I can't save the journal?
Thank you for trying our demo! The demo lets
you save all of your data and try every major
feature while it is running, including the journal.
For example, to test the calendar, chart, statistics
and report tool, go to the journal and enter data
for one or more previous days. The information
you enter will automatically appear in each tool.
You can still permanently save ten databases including
exercises, grocery lists, recipes, favorite web
links, equipment, meal programs, workout programs,
a custom food database, profiles, and preferences.
If you purchase the full version, you can continue
using the data you have recorded in the demo.
In some cases, Weightmania can be reverse-engineered.
This prevents us from releasing a full version
with a 30 day limit. We apologize for any inconvenience
this may cause.
20. Are you planning to add more foods to
the built-in Weightmania food database?
Yes. We are continuously adding foods to our
database. In early 2007, we are planning to double
the size of current database from 8,000 to over
16,000 foods. These are free upgrades for everyone.
21. I'm having trouble printing photos or
tables. How can I fix or improve my printouts?
When printing tables (like the statistics, weight
training or meal tables), right click directly
on the table with the mouse (on a Mac hold the
Control Key and press the mouse button). Select
print from the popup menu that appears. This is
also the best way to print photographs. In most
cases, this will significantly improve the results.
22. What is my registration/activation code?
If you purchased packaged software, this code
appears on the back or inside cover of the CD
case. For downloads, this code appears in blue
text at the bottom of the download page. If you
lost this code, or did not receive one, just send
us a note using our feedback form. We'll email
you the code within 24 hours (in many cases we
can respond in a few minutes). For faster service,
please include your name, email address, the name
of the product you purchased, and where you ordered
it (this site, or the name of a third party site).
23. Why doesn't my registration/activation
code work?
First, make sure you are using the correct code.
If you purchased packaged software, this code
appears on the back or inside cover of the CD
case. For downloads, this code appears in blue
text at the bottom of the download page. All activation
codes for Weightmania Pro begin with two letters.
Weightmania Mobile codes begin with three letters.
The rest are numbers. For example, "0"
is zero not the letter "O". When you
enter it, make sure there are no spaces before
or after the code. If this does not work, just
send us a note using our feedback form. We'll
email you the code within 24 hours (in many cases
we can respond in a few minutes). For faster service,
please include your name, email address, the name
of the product you purchased, and where you ordered
it (this site, or the name of a third party site).
24. Is there an upgrade available for my software?
To see if an upgrade is available, go to the
main Help menu in your software and select "Check
for Product Updates..." Most of our products
now have this option. You can also visit this
page directly by going to www.weightmania.com/updates.htm.
Anytime a new product is released, the information
on this page is updated. Note, to find out your
software version, select the "About"
menu option. In Windows this is located under
the main Help menu. On the Mac, this is under
the "Weightmania Pro" menu.
25. Are upgrades free and/or how do I upgrade
to the latest version?
All our upgrades are free. We release several
upgrades each year to correct issues and make
improvements. First, see if an upgrade is available
for your product (see FAQ 24 above). To upgrade,
send us a brief note using our feedback form.
We'll email you the information you need to download
the upgrade. For faster service, please include
your name, the email address used to order, the
name of the product you purchased, and where you
ordered it (this site, or the name of a third
party site).
